The Truweight Story
Truweight is a weight loss solution that provides consumers customized nutrition plans, weight loss counselling and fat burning super foods. Founders Vishnu Saraf and Megha More, having identified a lack of credible weight-loss solutions in the market, launched Truweight in December 2013. The company has since grown ten-fold and has over 1,000 active clients.

Recipe for success
Number one would be passion. You can survive a regular job without passion but not at a startup. Enjoy the journey – don’t just wait for the destination. People often ask us why we quit our jobs to become entrepreneurs. It wasn’t the money or the fame. Not even liberty because entrepreneurs are slaves to their business, their customers, even their employees. It wasn’t the working hours because we’re working three times harder now. The best explanation for being an entrepreneur is that you enjoy roller-coaster rides and not merry-go-rounds.
Stay hungry, Stay foolish. Stay hungry is self explanatory. People often get confused by ‘stay foolish’. As an entrepreneur, you have to be foolish enough to believe you will succeed against all odds, that you will solve a big problem with your limited resources, that David can beat Goliath.
Be adaptive and flexible. Love your baby, but more importantly, be flexible and tuned in to reality. At times, it may be difficult to accept that your idea is not good enough, that people are not seeing it as the game changer and the next big revolution that you think it to be. This may seem contradictory to what we said earlier (stay foolish), but it isn’t. Finding the balance between foolishness and flexibility is important, and there is only a fine line between the two.

Your unique idea
Weight loss is a big problem, not just in India but globally. And there is no easy solution. Research shows that less than 1% of obese people are able to successfully lose weight and reach their normal body mass index. In India, the problem is even more acute as almost all available weight loss solutions offer artificial means to lose weight-slimming machines, pills, sauna belts, etc. Unfortunately, none of these solutions work.
At Truweight, we do things differently. We realise that food plays the biggest role in weight management. We don’t just offer customised nutrition counselling but also a health food kit that makes it easier for people to eat healthy. We spend time on R&D and in developing the healthiest food products that are not just good for weight loss but for overall health as well. With our mobile app, we’ll be able to provide a digital dietician to everyone, assisting our members 24/7.
Partnership with Kalaari
Kalaari’s biggest contribution has been to make us realise the importance of technology in our business. We were an offline company and the founders have no background in technology. We now realise how technology can bring about a major shift in our business and make it far more scalable than we ever thought.
Your first meeting
We started talking to Kalaari even before we officially launched our brand. I must say it wasn’t an easy task, convincing them of our idea. It took us almost a year and a lot of meetings before we signed the term sheet. During that year, we had no hope that the deal would materialize, but it did!
Our lesson for budding entrepreneurs is to never lose hope. And be in touch with investors even if you feel interest is low. Strong relationships take time to develop!
