It all begins with the idea – is there a large enough market need, is it scalable? Once the is proof of concept is met, the burden shifts to the founding team – its ability to hire, manage and evolve. Ultimately it’s about believing in yourself and putting in the hard work day in and day out. Always be guided by data to show traction, growth and ultimately monetize.
Your unique idea
POPxo is India’s largest digital media platform for women. It creates content around fashion, beauty, wedding, work and relationships – everything that a young woman cares about. Publishing both in English and Hindi, via text and video, POPxo works with leading brands to help them reach out to women all over India.
Partnership with Kalaari
Kalaari has in many ways been the ideal VC for us. Vani believed in the idea from day one. She and her team took us, first time founders, through the entire process and stood by us when things seemed tough. They are around when you need them and for the rest of the time. Apart from a monthly check on numbers, you are left alone to build.
Your first meeting
We asked for an introduction to Kalaari as Vani was the only female principal of a fund that we knew of. As POPxo is focused on women, and as it’s two female founders we were keen to get her take, hoping that she would see the need for what we were building. We were introduced to Ashish Dave and as we were almost at the end of our fundraising process (with one VC committed and leading), he fast tracked us to the pitch day. Vani couldn’t make it to our pitch but we sat down with her afterwards and it was a fantastic freewheeling discussion about pretty much everything. We left energized and later when the term sheet came through – we were glad to have Kalaari in our corner!
