The Doormint Story
It all began with Abhinav Agarwal’s frustration with a geyser-repair experience that took up an entire day and a fair chunk of cash. The IIT alumnus teamed up with two other IIT-ians, Naman Lahoty and Piyush Rajan, in early 2015 to provide transparently priced services from plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, etc. through an easy-to-book online platform. What began as a hyperlocal venture grew seven-fold in just three months and is now expanding to cover all of Mumbai.

Recipe for success
I think the success of a startup depends on a mixture of critical elements like a founding team with complementary skill sets – people who are driven by the same level of passion and share a common vision for change are a basic necessity. The team is always more important than the idea. In addition, persistence, along with relentless hard work and optimism are a founder’s best friends in the journey.
Your unique idea
Accessing home services such laundry, cleaning, utilities (electricians, plumbers, carpenters) on-demand through mobile apps is a huge convenience. We take full ownership of delivering predictable and professional service levels with transparent, upfront pricing – that’s what makes us unique in this crowded space.
Partnership with Kalaari
Kalaari is a very fast-moving and supportive partner when it comes to getting strategic capital. They are very proactive in helping get the right doors opened for you, plus in pushing you constantly to think in the right direction and injecting the right amount of flexibility in business experiments.
First meeting with Kalaari
We discussed our business model, market size and approach towards the customer in a hyper-competitive environment. They showed confidence in our conviction and after just one more partner meeting, decided to invest in Doormint. It was a huge encouragement for our team to get a firm like Kalaari to invest in our company in less than 2 weeks – it re-affirmed our beliefs and our thinking.
